Best Friends John Jacob and Todd Matthews
Sweet Nate's was started by best friends Todd Matthews and John Jacob in 2021 during the height of COVID. With uncertainty facing the world, they decided to take the entrepreneurial plunge and start a coffee truck. With a DIY spirit and more ambition than sense, they bought their first trailer, espresso machine, and grinder and set to work building the business.
Who's Nate?
We named the company after Todd's dad, Nate Matthews, a 20 year veteran of the Air Force. During his military career he and his team intercepted Russian transmissions and broke their codes. Later on he would accompany raids on drug runners off the coast of Florida.
He was a fairly quiet, well read family man with a good sense of humor. Nate looked over his kids as well as the neighbors kids. For our friend group, he was the neighborhood dad. Someone you could go to for advice on any number of things.
There's Nothing Like the Warm Sound of Vinyl
Instead of piping in the same old coffee house playlist, we play vinyl records. We have over 500 records on hand ranging from Pink Floyd, and Tame Impala, to Miles Davis, and Marvin Gaye.
Our employees are encouraged to bring in their own vinyl to play while they work. You might hear Amy Winehouse, Lana Del Ray, or Malchat Doma while we prepare a signature latte or Bacon, Egg, & Cheese.
